Wow, he is really crazy.

As I've said a million times, the best thing about the U.S. is all the friendly, funny and quirky Americans that dwell on this most lovely of continents. However, sometimes the quirkiness degenerates into pretty insane madness. As with this guy, a meteorologist from the University of Kansas, who has some pretty colorful ideas about where Hurricane Katrina came from. Hint: They were made by Japanese and Russian mafia, hence the lead: "Ivan and Katrina. These are both very Russian sounding names."

(He forgot Andrew and Camille, to mention but a few. But Andrew is really just the American version of Andrei, and if you rearrange the letters in "Camille", you almost get "Ilyich", which is Lenin's middle name. Coincidence? I don't freakin' think so.)

More accurate but MUCH less timely is Germany's environment minister, Juergen Trittin, who said that global warming and climate changes are to blame for the increasingly extreme weather phenomenons like Katrina. He said that the lack of American commitment to international climate cooperation like the Kyoto Protocol is part of what's causing this.

Even though there is a core of truth deep down in his argument, the timing was laughably bad, as the U.S. is struggling to cope with its history's largest humanitarian crisis. Even though I'm sure he said it with good intentions, and even though he has a very important point, the result of his comment is probably NOT that the U.S. becomes a part of the international climate regime, but rather that they never ever again will commit to any climate resolution.

So great job, Juergen. Whose name by the way is also suspiciously Russian sounding.
