A really good concert.. For real!

So last night, Hurra Torpedo finally made it to Washington, in a show that included line dancing (Washington DC is - of course - the line dancing capital of the USA,) quite a bit of mucus, and a lot of man-crack. Actually, I was really surprised at how much musical variety you can get from a guitar, a bass, and a really huge selection of kitchen appliances. Songs included the now world-famous cover of Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart," a sublime version of Britney's "Toxic", and finally a heart-warming song about how eyes really aren't that pretty when they're not in a head.
No shit, it was a really good concert!
A few themes stand out:
-Feminism: By using sledgehammers in the kitchen, I will argue that they send a message of women's liberation through destroying kitchen appliances.
-Man vs. Machine: Man's desperation in a time of increased mechanization and robotization is an important theme in Hurra Torpedo's music. By taking a firm stand against this machinery, not only does Hurra Torpedo illustrate the tribal, primal fear we all have against increasingly powerful machines, they also signal a trend back to a simpler age, in which food was cooked over an open fire. Indeed, destruction of a force as destructive as evil machinery balances the machinery's destruction, creating a bountiful balance.
-Very few things are as beautiful and scenic as Norwegian man-crack.
