Guatemala 1 - Guatemala City and Ramon!

Alright! I really don't have time to blog right now, but there is SO MUCH COOL STUFF TO BLOG ABOUT FROM THIS WEEKEND! So I'll put up something now, and clean it up later!

So yeah, I am safely home from Guatemala, and a stay with my good friend Ramon and his crazy, awesome family!


They are the prototype of the Latin-American family, super feisty and fiery, and yeah, definitely not a dull moment in the household.

Oh, and Clementina, the last member of the household.

What can I say? The wine was good and the Scotch was even better!

Given the security situation in Guatemala City, they lived in a gated house in a gated community with armed guards and such, which was kind of a new thing to me, but I guess it's necessary, unfortunately. Either way, they had a fantastic garden, with - appropriately - chili plants, avocado, and all kinds of other exotic things.


Guatemala City was beautiful, but there was a very visible poverty issue with ethnic tension, in addition to a strong need for emissions regulations.


This is the government palace, which was a cool and impressive mix of all kinds of architectural traditions, from the neo-classical to the byzantine.
